451.42.a.jpg     The Union District School occupied a site now located somewhere in the center of I-95 where it passes under Horsepond Road. Note the woodpile behind the boys on the right and the bell tower. The great variation in the ages of children attending district schools is evident in the varying heights of the pupils. Women were often hired to teach the spring term while men were hired for the winter term when older boys were in attendance.
