| 226.13.b.psd This cyanoprint shows the Neck District located at the intersection of Neck Road and the Boston Post Road. Typical of the district schools of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it was white with green shutters, tall windows, a door for boys and a door for girls, a woodshed and a privy or outhouse. The chimney marks the wood stove often lighted each day in winter by the teacher or an older boy. Wood for stove was supplied by community members who were paid $4.50 per cord. This building still stands although much altered. |
